City Hall (NS25/EW13) is a Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the North–South Line and the East–West Line.

History[edit]

Date Event
12 December 1987 Station officially opened
4 November 1989 Station interchanged with East–West Line (former North–South Line)

Construction incident[edit]

On 10 December 1985, a foreman died after falling 6.5m from a working platform when supervising the installation of steel beams for the City Hall MRT station.[1]

2011 train disruption[edit]

On 15 December 2011, a train heading northbound had been stuck up by a damaged power rail at about 7pm, causing a train disruption between Bishan and Marina Bay stations. Southbound services resumed as per normal from 9pm, but northbound services were closed for the night for further maintenance works. About 127,000 commuters were affected by this disruption.[2] Later investigation found out that the disruption was caused by a defective fastener in the Third Rail Support Assembly (TRSA) on the northbound track between Dhoby Ghaut and City Hall stations, resulting in the third rail to sag, resulting in the whole segment of track impassable to all trains.[3]
